Brass! Strings! Percussion! This week we listen to music inspired by the classics, though we often find classical pieces adapted for video games. So why not showcase a little bit of both! Also, Rob tries-out for a position at NPR and Pernell has a serious Persona addiction.
This week on the show we focus on something familiar. We want Zelda games, but don’t want Zelda games, you know what I mean? These are games similar to the classic “Link To The Past” or “Link’s Awakening” styles, but not featuring our iconic hero. Enjoy this week’s adventure games that are not Zelda!
Rob and Pernell are back together in the studio, and ready to rock this podcast! This week’s topic is “Memories”, meaning anything that triggers specific memories for us, personal or gaming related. So this one gets a little heavy on the nostalgia. Pernell gets nostalgic for the old east coast Bemani scene, and Rob gets nostalgic for old audio formats.
Happy new year everyone! Thanks for coming back for another great year of video game music. It means a great deal to us that you’re still listening and enjoying the show! This week we do another composer focus, this time on one of Konami’s greats, Mihciru Yamane! Enjoy!
Internet! Are you ready to ROCK! What started as an episode of great guitar riffs, turned into general rock music found in video games. As usual Rob digs into the classic 8 and 16 bit generations, and Pernell shares some of his favorite Falcom Sound Team tunes. Let’s jam!
This week your hosts listen to music from sky and air themed stages. These are parts of games that are not entirely about the sky, but these sections are in the clouds. Pernell tries to get his head around the realities of Little Nemo, and Rob channels his inner 90s RnB singer in what might be his favorite track of the year.
Rob and Pernell set aside their friendship and call each other out. It’s time to throw-down! Gutsman I choose you! This week we pit Mega Man Robot Master against Robot Master in a battle to the awesome!
What a horrible night to have a curse-of great video game music! The newly adpoted Belmont-brothers are here to listen to some classic Castlevania tracks! There are so many songs to choose from, they’re harder to avoid than those Medusa heads.
So grab your holy water and your headphones, it’s time to whip it!

We match 3, clear rows of lines, and dump garbage blocks in this exciting new episode. Puzzle games is this week’s topic! The hosts talk about their shared love OF the genre, and how it brought them together as friends. And sometimes enemies, because Pernell is too good at Magical Drop and must be stopped at all costs.
There is music across a variety of game systems, so there is something for everybody! Get down with the Rhythm and Pixels!

A wild podcast appears! The Rhythm and Pixels team is blasting off at the speed of music, because this week we’re talking about all things Pokemon. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, we’re covering music from all of the handheld console “eras”. Helping us celebrate is special guest Mike Ward, musician and Pokemon addict.
So flip that hat backwards, get your Bulbasaurs and Charmanders ready, it’s time for great video game music!
